Exploring the In Between
UltraSuperNew Kura art gallery will host a new exhibit featuring the work of Mona Sugata. Through motifs from the natural world such as flowers, leaves, butterflies and bees, Mona Sugata explores the cycles of life and the invisible connections between living beings.
For Sugata, creating is an act of listening closely to the small lives that fill the world and giving form to their echoes. Working across painting, sculpture, and installation, she creates landscapes where people and nature, memory and imagination intersect. Their works serve as spaces for sharing landscapes and sensations with the viewer, exploring moments when we encounter the fundamental memories and sensations that we all share.
In this exhibition, Sugata explores these landscapes of invisible connections through motifs such as flowers, butterflies and stars to understand the things that cross boundaries and connect us. The exhibition also explores the theme of transition, being somewhere between the past and the future — and between who we are now and what has yet to take shape.
