This is the regular beer garden at Restaurant 1899 Ochanomizu, where drinks, dishes and desserts alike are built around tea. Now in its tenth run, it offers an all-you-can-drink selection of 35 varieties, the largest lineup yet, including a matcha beer whose distinctive mellow character keeps drinkers coming back, along with Japanese tea cocktails and alcohol-free mocktails.
The all-you-can-drink plan features seven new creations, among them Matcha no Chawari Chitose, in which sake is cut with matcha whisked using a bamboo whisk, and a sencha honey lemon sour combining cold-brewed sencha with lemon, shochu, honey and sparkling water.
On the food side, 25 dishes are available in total, including seven new items that rework beer garden standards with tea, such as a lavish plate of five meat dishes with vegetables and a seafood pizza made with matcha cheese. To finish, five tea desserts are offered, among them the 1899 tea parfait, which strikes a careful balance between the bitterness of matcha and the sweetness of ingredients such as sweet bean paste, and a rich matcha gelato. Seating is limited to 120 minutes, and food and desserts are charged separately from the drink plan.
