This exhibition traces the creative origins of Marimekko, Finland’s leading design house.
Since its founding in 1951, the brand has produced more than 3,500 print designs. The exhibition showcases the bold designs through dresses, fabrics and archival material charting the company’s history. Around 70 dresses spanning the 1960s to recent collections trace the evolution of Marimekko’s design.
The exhibition sheds light on the designers’ ideas and creative background, exploring Marimekko’s distinctive approach to printmaking from multiple angles, with video and documents illustrating the production process behind its vivid colors and bold patterns. A new installation by designer Akira Minagawa, who engaged in an extended dialogue with the brand and reinterpreted it through his own perspective, is also on view.
