Discover the World of Leiji Matsumoto
Take a deep dive into the world of master manga artist Leiji Matsumoto through the “‘Galaxy Express 999’ 50th Anniversary Project Leiji Matsumoto Exhibition: A Journey of Creation” exhibit at Tokyo City View. The exhibit showcases more than 300 original drawings, including Matsumoto’s early works and never-before-seen content. Through this extensive view of his process and growth, the exhibition explores Matsumoto’s view of the anime and manga industry, as well as an intimate view of manga-making technique.
Matsumoto is the mangaka behind many masterpieces, including his signature works Galaxy Express 999 and Space Pirate Captain Harlock, which will celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2027. These series have been beloved by many, across generations and international borders. The stories and characters Matsumoto’s work depict the preciousness and importance of life. This exhibition is the first of the 50th anniversary projects.
Tokyo City View, located on the 52nd floor of the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower, is a perfect venue for this exhibit. Matching Matsumoto’s grand fantasy stories set in outer space, Tokyo City View presents a magical look at Tokyo’s cityscape.
