Embroidery styles vary widely by region, ethnicity and class — ranging from simple work made by women for their families to intricate pieces created through the advanced skill of professional artisans.
This exhibition introduces fine embroidery from around 35 countries, spanning Japanese embroidery expressing the character of each season, elaborate European embroidery born from haute couture craftsmanship, and Asian and African embroidery carrying colors and patterns passed down within their own communities.
