Summer Treats with Suica Penguin
Following the massive success of last year’s event, the Hotel Metropolitan in Nishi-Ikebukuro will once again host the “Suica Penguin Summer Festival Summer Buffet” with over 25 different dishes, inspired by the Suica Penguin mascot and the summer season.
Suica Penguin has served as the mascot for JR East and its electronic transit card since 2001. It was announced that the beloved character will be retiring at the end of the year, with a new mascot scheduled to be introduced in 2027. As a celebration and farewell tour, this summer buffet is a great chance for fans to enjoy Suica Penguin’s last year.
The buffet will only be available for a limited time, from August 14 to August 16. The time slot schedule is as follows:
- August 14: ①12:30p.m.~ ②5:00p.m.~
- August 15: ①12:30p.m.~ ②5:00p.m.~
- August 16: ①12:30p.m~

The menu features a wide variety of flavors and summertime favorites that evoke the feeling of a natsu matsuri, or summer festival. The lineup includes grilled squid, fried chicken, spare ribs, pizza, pork shoulder loin, kushikatsu skewers, yakisoba, okinomiyaki and Hotel Metropolitan’s special beef curry with chunky vegetables. To help beat the summer heat, the buffet will also offer a variety of refreshing cold dishes, like vegetable terrine, gazpacho, tomato jelly, unagi quiche and Japanese soba noodles.
Three specialty dishes will be served: a slow-cooked roast beef, a Suica Penguin hot dog and a Suica Penguin fan-shaped cake. These dishes are limited to one dish per person.
For dessert, the buffet will have crepes, blue Hawaiian-style watermelon and pineapple, peach allumettes, bite-sized candied apples, churros and more. Plenty of Suica Penguin-themed desserts will also be available, including the event-exclusive mint and white chocolate ganache macaron, the brown sugar bavarois and ginger lemon jelly and the mango Taiwanese castella. These Suica Penguin treats are not available anywhere else, so fans can truly appreciate a special penguin-filled display.

Guests dining at the buffet will receive special original fans or balloons to take photos and wave around during their visit. There will be a raffle that guests can enter for the chance to take a photo with the Suica Penguin mascot (15 groups per session).
