A Performance Six Years in the Making
Steve Smith’s Japan tour is finally happening after six years. The tour was originally scheduled for 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic.
Smith has been a member of numerous popular music groups including Journey, Steps Ahead and Hiromi Uehara’s Trio Project. He has also performed with Mariah Carey and Bryan Adams. Smith will now perform with his own jazz fusion band, Vital Information.
Vital Information was formed in 1983, with members including former Santana member Tom Coster. This performance will feature Steve Smith on drums, Manuel Valera on keyboard and Janek Gwizdala on bass.
With the album Time Flies released in 2023 to commemorate the band’s 40th anniversary, and New Perspective scheduled for 2025, the performance will include new interpretations of popular songs from throughout Smith’s career.
Following the performance on March 19 at Blue Note Place, Steve Smith and Vital Information will perform at Cotton Club on March 20.
