Soulful Guitar Artistry

From swing to jazz funk, Europe’s guitar virtuoso Biréli Lagrène will be making a return to Blue Note Tokyo with his sax trio.

Born in Strasbourg, France in 1966, Lagrène started playing guitar at the age of four and made his recording debut at just thirteen years old. Lagrène was praised by guitarist John McLaughlin as a “guitar phenomenon.” Influenced by Django Reinhardt and Wes Montgomery, he established his musicality and performed with many famous musicians such as Stephane Grappelli and Jaco Pastorius.

Lagrène performed at Blue Note Tokyo in 2013 as a member of Richard Galliano’s band. He now leads his own dynamic trio. The performance will feature Biréli Lagrène on guitar, Franck Wolf on saxophone and William Brunard on bass.
