Taiwan’s Voice of a Generation
Taiwan’s leading neo-soul, R&B and jazz singer Joanne Tang Yu-chi, better known by her stage name 9m88 and nickname “Barber” in Japan, takes the Blue Note Place stage with her latest project: This Temporary Ensemble Vol. 2. Returning to her jazz roots, 9m88 will present an intimate and deeply personal live performance.
9m88 has become widely known not only as a singer but also as one of Taiwan’s top artists overall, making appearances in films, TV dramas and fashion magazine covers. Following up on the first iteration of “This Temporary Ensemble” in 2022, volume two features acoustic jazz arrangements of previously released songs. Included on the album are R&B ballads such as “Tell Me” from her second album and electro-pop-infused tracks like “Look At My Way” from her third album.
The performance will include 9m88 on vocals, Chun-Yu Kuo on keyboard, Devilin Chen on drums, Brandon Lin on bass and Yu-Jung Hsiao on guitar.
