See Tokyo Through Kokeshi Dolls

Okura Woodworking is Tokyo’s only kokeshi production company. Tokyo Mokunavi invites guests to learn more about these traditional Japanese wooden dolls through their new Tokyo Kokeshi x Illustrators Tsushin: Kokeshi Art Exhibition.

The Tokyo Kokeshi are characterized by their signature happiness ring around the neck, and are crafted using Tokyo cypress wood. The dolls are carved from a single wood block, and various illustrators decorate their kokeshi to reflect their own interpretation of what “Tokyo” represents to them.
