Confront Your Fears
The Fear Exhibition, running from July 18 to August 31 at the Beam Gallery at Shibuya Beam shopping mall, explores fears and anxieties of the human heart. Focusing on both conventional and irrational fears, the exhibit is an opportunity for visitors to explore a wide range of phobias while also confronting their own fears.
The gallery is divided into four themed zones: the fear of existence, the fear of society, the fear of space and the fear of concepts. The exhibition uses multi-media installations to build a very intimate and creepy environment. The exhibit includes common fears such as the fear of dolls, sharp edges, and injections. But through the use of the five senses, visitors can also experience and understand the seemingly inexplicable psychological fears that may not be considered scary at first glance, such as the fear of nostalgia, mirrors, hair, or forgetfulness.
The Fear Exhibition was created in collaboration with ghost story writer Nashi, Yami Co. horror company CEO Shotaro Tonka and TV Tokyo producer Omori Tokio.
The exhibition’s website has three additional special audio broadcasts available that explore the sound-based triggers such as gas, keys, laughter and footsteps.
