Zigsen Liu’s First Solo Exhibition in Japan
As a digital native who witnessed the rapid rise of the internet, smart cities and AI, Chinese artist Zigsen Liu uses his practice to question how technological acceleration is rewiring human perception. Drawing on a background in both sculpture and painting, Liu brings nine new large-scale works to Harajuku that feel part Cubist, part Expressionist and part psychedelic.
The artist’s first solo exhibition in Japan pivots between two distinct approaches: ethereal “cosmic paintings” and Liu’s signature “double-sided paintings.” The latter features overlapping gradient brushstrokes to build a sense of eerie, moving depth while maintaining its compositional coherence. Mythological figures, natural landscapes and modern motifs collide across the works presented, prompting viewers to decode their meanings, as though looking at star charts.
