Connections and Contradictions Where Humans and Nature Meet
Tokyo Midtown Hibiya Hall will exhibit the art of Yuichi Hirako, and his depictions of mysterious beings where plants and humans are united.
Through the charming expressions of Hirako’s creatures, visitors can think about the relationship between nature and humans, cities and forests, and everyday life and the world of imagination. The exhibit will feature a total of approximately 300 works, including new paintings and sculptures. Featured works include a group of mobiles, some reaching up to 3.5 meters in length, which will be shown for the first time.
“In the shadow of symbolic themes such as environmental protection and SDGs, which are widely proclaimed in many developed countries, isn’t the “raw nature” that we should really be confronting being left behind?” says Hirako about the exhibition.
Don’t miss the outdoor installations as well, including Sacred Tree 01 at Hibiya Step Square and the immersive Mirror Plant 01 in nearby Hibiya Park.
The exhibit will also offer interactive storytelling workshops, special talk sessions and autograph signings with Hirako and exhibit supervisor Yuji Akimoto. Special tree-shaped, gluten-free donuts will be available at I’m donut? packages inside original, limited-edition collaboration boxes featuring designs specially drawn by Yuichi Hirako for this project. Limited-edition collaboration T-shirts from the brand Neutralworks will also be exclusively available at the exhibit.
