Experience Sakamoto’s Installation Music

The “Ambient Kyoto” exhibition will be held in Tokyo for the first time.

“Ambient Kyoto” combines sound, art and space with the surrounding theme of “ambience.” This time, the exhibition will be held at the Azabudai Hills Gallery in Minato Ward and will feature “async – immersion,” a work by Ryuichi Sakamoto and Shiro Takatani that was presented at the 2023 Ambient Kyoto exhibition.

Based on Ryuichi Sakamoto’s 2017 album “async,” the installation piece is composed of video by Shiro Takatani and spatial sound by ZAK. As the title “async” suggests, the video created by Takaya responds to the sound but is not perfectly synchronized. The piece was developed with Sakamoto’s concept of “installation music,” where guests can “feel” sound three-dimensionally in space. It’s an immersive experience where music, visuals, sound and space all become one.
