The Music of Versailles Brought to Life

Billboard Japan will host “The Rose of Versailles Symphonic Concert 2026” in collaboration with Avex Pictures Inc. to commemorate the first anniversary of the theatrical anime that was released nationwide in 2025.

The original The Rose of Versailles manga was serialized in “Weekly Margaret” since 1972, and surpassed 20 million copies in circulation. The story follows the life of Lady Oscar, who overcomes social status and gender to choose her own path during the French Revolution. The series grew in popularity around the world, and was later adapted into a TV anime and a stage play by the Takarazuka Revue all-female theater troupe.

In 2025, a completely new theatrical anime film was released. Hiroyuki Sawano, who has composed music for numerous renowned works such as Attack on Titan and Mobile Suit Gundam UC, produced the film’s music with Kohta Yamamoto.

This symphonic performance will feature arrangements of numerous songs created for the theatrical anime. The cast will also feature Miyuki Sawashiro as Oscar, Aya Hirano as Marie Antoinette, Toshiyuki Toyonaga as André and Kazuki Kato as Fersen — who will sing along with a full orchestra. Combined with visual effects, the performance will vividly portray the world of the story through the world of music.
