Literary Classics, Reimagined
Azabudai Hills Gallery Space will host a Pop Up Box mini exhibition series, with the running theme of “unique finds from Japan.” The first exhibition will center Azabu Bungo Kaidan, ghost stories by great literary figures, and will showcase famous literary works reimagined by contemporary illustrators such as the popular Otome no Hondana (Maiden’s Bookshelf) book series.

The Maiden’s Bookshelf series combines classic short stories of the early 20th century with gorgeous original artwork. The series features giants such as Osamu Dazai and Soseki Natsume with beautiful original artwork. The Pop Up Box exhibition will feature three works from the series: The Red Candle and the Mermaid by Mimei Ogawa, Hell of Mirrors by Ranpo Edogawa and Long-Aged Princess and Ear-Man by Ango Sakaguchi.

The exhibit will have several photo spots where guests can immerse themselves in the world of each artwork. Visitors will also receive a sticker as a special gift. The gallery shop will have exclusive merchandise, including postcards, notepads, mirrors and konpeito candy tins.
Complementing the exhibition, the Azabudai Hills Gallery Cafe will serve a limited-time menu inspired by a traditional kissaten coffee shop. A set menu is available, which includes an exhibition book that can be enjoyed with a shortcake or pudding.
