Kawaii with Ai Yazawa Style
Ai Yazawa’s popular manga series Neighborhood Story will collaborate with Sanrio for a cute new collection of merchandise that will be available at a touring pop-up shop.
Ai Yazawa is the beloved author and artist behind internationally acclaimed series including Nana and Paradise Kiss. Renowned for her complex stories and detailed representation of fashion, Yazawa’s iconic style is recognized around the world. Neighborhood Story began serialization in 1995, and was later adapted into a 50-episode television anime series by Toei Animation.
Now, Yazawa’s iconic characters will join Sanrio’s adorable cast with a lineup of original goods featuring Hello Kitty, My Melody, Pompompurin, Kuromi and Mikako. Products include plush toys, keychains, acrylic diorama, mirrors and hair clips. Reflecting the fashion theme, the collaboration will also offer a zippered pullover and a loungewear dress. Select items, such as the loungewear dress, handkerchief and pouch will be available exclusively at the Shibuya location.
For every ¥3000 spent at the pop-up shop, guests will receive a random postcard.
The pop-up shop will open in four cities throughout Japan. Its first stop will be Tokyo’s Yurakucho neighborhood at the Yurakucho Marui department store starting July 10. The pop-up shop will then go to Osaka in August, Nagoya in September and the return to Tokyo in Shibuya in October. For more information on each stop, please visit the collaboration website.
