For the first time in Sanrio history, the ultra-viral tanned versions of Hello Kitty and her friends will be appearing at the Sanrio Harmonyland theme park for a special seasonal event.
The “Hacha Mecha Summer Party” event will run from July 3 to September 15 at the Oita Prefecture theme park, with exclusive character greetings, merchandise, photo spots, a watershow and a parade.
While many flock to Tokyo’s Sanrio Puroland theme park, Sanrio Harmonyland, which is located in the Kyushu region, offers an even bigger kawaii paradise and a host of exclusive attractions.

Tanned and Ready to Party
Bronzed Hello Kitty characters have soared in popularity recently. Sold in Okinawa and Hawaii, these sun-kissed variations serve as a fun symbol of tropical travel. Tan Hello Kitty has also become one of the major unofficial mascots of nostalgic “Y2K” Heisei-era trends, as well as of the gyaru fashion subculture.
The exclusive “Hacha Mecha Summer Party” event will feature tanned versions of Hello Kitty, Dear Daniel, Kuromi, Cinnamoroll, Pompompurin and Ahirunopekkle. Guests will be able to visit the park’s Kitty Castle and the Character Greeting Fan Studio for meet-and-greets with these beach-ready characters.
There will also be several premier greeting opportunities starting July 4: At the Character Greeting Fan Studio, guests can meet two characters at a time in a more private session. This attraction requires an added fee of ¥5,000, as well as an application via advance lottery. Up to four people can enter the attraction per participation ticket.
The venue will also host premier greeting sessions featuring characters in their Iceful Parade costumes. This attraction requires an added fee of ¥3,500 and an application to the advance lottery.
Photo Spots
Throughout Harmonyland, guests can find cute decor and photo spots with the theme of summer fun. There will be a large display in front of Harvest Table restaurant at Harmony Village with all of the tanned characters.

Entertainment
A special “water show” will take place at Harmony Park at 11:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. This is a new show featuring sun-tanned Hello Kitty, Kuromi and Pompompurin; it’s designed to help guests cool down from the summer heat, with water cannons spraying to the beat of energetic music.
The show’s theme song, “Minami no Shima no?! Hacha Mecha Supurashu Pari!” (“Crazy Splash Party on the Southern Island”) was created by composer Hayakawa Hirotaka and the Rebrast songwriting team. Hirotaka has made songs for renowned music groups like AKB48, Nogizaka46 and Cutie Street.
The popular summer-limited Iceful Parade will return with an ice cream-themed show. The Iceful Parade will go around Harmony Village starting at 1:00 p.m. Guests can purchase “ice balloons” to cheer for their favorite Sanrio characters as they stroll by.
The “Fun x Fan” night show — with performances on July 18, July 19, and from August 13 to August 15 starting at 7:30 p.m. — will celebrate Sanrio Harmonyland’s 35th anniversary in front of Kitty Castle.
