Few childhood memories feel as universally shared as forgetting to feed a Tamagotchi and returning to a tiny pixelated grave. Nearly three decades after the virtual pet first appeared on schoolbags and clipped onto keychains, Tamagotchi continues to find new life through Japan’s ongoing Heisei era retro revival.

Its latest evolution arrives through a new collaboration with phone case brand Casetify (stylized as CASETiFY). Launching on May 29, the limited collection transforms fan favorite characters and 8-bit nostalgia into smartphone cases, charms and collectible accessories. The lineup will be available through Casetify stores nationwide and online, with waitlist access opening ahead of general release. To mark the launch, the brand’s Shibuya Parco branch will also host a month-long themed pop-up.

Special Pop-Up At Shibuya Parco

From May 29 to June 30, Shibuya Parco will host a special installation celebrating the launch. The space will feature themed displays inspired by Tamagotchi’s distinctly cute and chaotic world, alongside exclusive smartphone cases and photo spots.

The launch arrives amid a broader wave of Tamagotchi nostalgia in Japan, from anniversary exhibitions to themed cafes and new product releases. Nearly three decades after children first carried virtual pets, Tamagotchi continues to find new audiences — increasingly less as a toy and more as a cultural symbol of an era.

What’s in the Casetify x Tamagotchi Collection

The collection leans heavily into Tamagotchi’s chaotic and cute universe: vivid colors, sticker graphics and characters including Mametchi, Kuchipatchi and Mimitchi.

Nostalgic Character Designs

Alongside phone, tablet and laptop cases (from ¥6,050) as well as accessories (from ¥2,200) covered in iconic Tamagotchi motifs, one of the standout pieces are round plush pouches of the three fan favorite characters, designed to hold earbuds while doubling as an oversized bag charm. There are also detachable phone charms, metallic Tamagotchi-shaped hooks and patterned straps designed to turn everyday tech into something closer to a collectible.

Customizable Tamagotchi Suitcase

The collaboration extends beyond smaller accessories with a customizable carry-on suitcase. Available in primrose pink and cobalt blue, you can decorate the surface with an array of Tamagotchi characters, text or initials printed in Tamagotchi’s iconic retro font.

Tamagotchi Chase Card

For collectors, Casetify is also introducing a limited Tamagotchi Chase Card — part of its newer premium trading card line. The cards come in seven rarity tiers, ranging from “Common” to “Supreme Ultra Rare.” Customers purchasing an item from the collection will receive one pack while supplies last.

 Limited Edition Casetify Tamogotchi

Perhaps the most unexpected release, however, is an exclusive Original Tamagotchi Casetify Limited Edition: a fully playable Tamagotchi device. The collectible virtual pet will only be available in limited quantities through Casetify’s Shibuya Parco store and online, making it one of the collaboration’s rarest pieces.

The World of Tamagotchi

Since its debut in 1996, Tamagotchi has evolved far beyond the egg-shaped handheld game many grew up with. What began as a virtual pet became a global phenomenon spanning an anime series, Nintendo games, anniversary exhibitions and collaborations with brands ranging from Pokémon to Sanrio.
