The World’s First Vintage Clothing Fashion Week
Tokyo Vintage Fashion Week will be held at the Shinjuku Sumitomo Building Triangle Plaza as an official event in conjunction with Tokyo Creative Salon, to promote vintage clothing and sustainable efforts domestically and internationally.
In recent years, Japan’s vintage and secondhand fashion culture has grown interest and popularity. Though previous “fashion week” runway events have mainly promoted new trends and materials, Tokyo Vintage Fashion Week aims to redefine fashion consumption and give old items new life through recycling and restyling.
The event will feature a secondhand clothing market with around 100 shops selling a variety of vintage items. Exhibitors include Stroboscope, Sponge, Style202, Kinsella, Dracaena Kichijoji, Spike Used & Vintage Clothing, Hangout and more. The event’s food court will invite exhibitors that also utilize sustainable practices in their businesses to reduce waste. Ramen Gonokami Seisakusho uses the usually discarded internal organs of Yamame trout, and Inishie Marche offers baked goods made with leftover vegetables.
Two fashion shows will showcase the historical background of vintage clothing, sharing the cultural value attached to secondhand clothes. The first show will be held on March 13 (doors open at 14:00) and the second show will be held on March 14 (doors open at 15:00). Seating for the fashion shows is open to everyone, but access may be restricted once capacity is reached.
The event time varies per day. On March 13, the event will be open from 13:00 to 19:00. On March 14 it will run from 10:00 to 19:00, and on March 15 it will run from 10:00 to 17:00.
