Enjoy the Summer Season in the Streets of Ginza

One of the best ways to enjoy the summer season in Japan is through a neighborhood summer festival. “Yukata de Ginbura” (Strolling in Ginza in a Yukata) will welcome guests to enjoy the summer environment while exploring the Ginza area.

Pedestrian zones in Tokyo were first implemented in August 1970 in Ginza, Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, and Asakusa. To commemorate the opening of these pedestrian zone, an event called “Holiday Promenade” is held every year on Chuo-dori, where visitors can walk freely. During the Yukata de Ginbura event, people are encouraged to experience wearing a yukata, or summer kimono. The Chuo-dori street will host Ginza Bon Odori dance, food stalls and other activities. The festival will run from Chuo-dori 1-chome to 8-chome, along with various neighboring shops.

For those who don’t know how to put on a yukata, the festival website offers dressing tutorials for both men and women styles.

The “water sprinkling” event will also return after a 2-year hiatus. During the event, water is thrown onto the Ginza streets, making a lively and refreshing scene to cool down to.
