Fairfield by Marriott Mie Kumano Kodo Mihama is now accepting applications for a unique scarecrow-making workshop at the stunning Maruyama Senmaida terraced rice fields on July 12. This hands-on experience is offered exclusively to hotel guests staying on July 11 or 12.
Maruyama Senmaida is one of Japan’s largest and most beautiful terraced rice paddies, with over 1,300 rice fields maintained by local community efforts. Participants will team up with local preservation society members to craft traditional scarecrows, which will be entered into a community scarecrow contest. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about rural farming culture and connect with the natural surroundings.
After the workshop, guests will enjoy a lunch of nagashi somen, cold noodles that are enjoyed flowing down a bamboo flume — a beloved summer treat.
This intimate experience is limited to 10 participants and free for children of elementary school age and younger. The participation fee is ¥3,000 per person, and payment is by credit card at hotel check-in.
Tour Schedule:
9:30 a.m.: Arrive at Maruyama Senmaida parking lot (approx. 30-minute drive from hotel; there will be a shuttle from the parking lot to the scarecrow-making venue)
9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.: Scarecrow-making workshop
