Sanford Panitch, president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, assured attendees that the Bloodborne animated movie will be “very true” to the gory, nightmarish spirit of the original game. In other words, don’t expect a sanitized, family-friendly take on the cursed city of Yharnam.
JackSepticEye To Produce
The film is being produced by PlayStation Productions alongside Seán McLoughlin — better known to millions as YouTuber JackSepticEye. McLoughlin has built a massive following in part through his Bloodborne and FromSoftware playthroughs, making him a fitting creative partner for the project.
Also attached is Lyrical Animation, a studio founded in November 2025 by adult animation company Line Mileage. Beyond these details, Sony has kept things close to the chest — no plot details, no release date and no trailer yet. Given the R-rating promise and the talent involved, though, expectations are high.
PlayStation’s Big Push Into Film
The Bloodborne announcement wasn’t the only major news from Sony at CinemaCon. The studio also confirmed that Helldivers, another PlayStation franchise, is getting the big-screen treatment. Directed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious, Star Trek Beyond) and starring Jason Momoa, the Helldivers film is slated for release on November 10, 2027.
With two high-profile game adaptations now in development, PlayStation Productions is clearly doubling down on its push to bring its most beloved IPs to a wider audience. For Bloodborne fans, the long wait for any kind of new content may finally be coming to an end — even if it arrives via animation rather than a PS5 remaster.
What Is Bloodborne?
For the uninitiated, Bloodborne is a gothic horror action game released for PlayStation 4 in 2015. Developed by FromSoftware — the Japanese studio behind Dark Souls and Elden Ring — it puts players in the role of a hunter descending into a city overrun by grotesque creatures on a night of endless nightmare. It quickly established itself as one of the defining games of its generation, earning a fiercely devoted fanbase thanks to its punishing gameplay, iconic bosses and deeply cryptic lore.
The game’s legacy, however, has been complicated by the fact that Sony Interactive Entertainment has kept it as a PS4 exclusive with no remaster or PC port in sight — leaving fans to experience it locked to hardware now running at a dated 30fps. But that hasn’t dampened enthusiasm for the IP one bit.
