Google has announced that it will open Google Store Omotesando this summer in Tokyo — the company’s first directly operated retail store anywhere outside the United States. The flagship will sit on the first floor of Tokyu Plaza Omotesando “Omokado,” a landmark shopping complex in one of the city’s most fashion-forward districts.
The choice of location carries meaning for Google. Japan was the first country where the company established an overseas office, making it the starting point of Google’s global expansion. The new flagship is framed as a way to bring a hands-on brand experience directly to the Japanese users who have supported the company for years.
What Visitors Can Do In-Store
The store is designed as a space to experience, buy and get support for Google’s full hardware lineup. Shoppers will be able to try and purchase Pixel smartphones, Google Nest smart-home devices, Fitbit wearables and a range of accessories from Google and partner brands. Products ordered through the Google Store online shop can also be picked up in person.
Beyond sales, the store leans heavily into Google’s AI ambitions. Visitors will be able to try the latest AI experiences firsthand and see how Google’s products and services fit into everyday life.
Dedicated staff will be on-site to provide troubleshooting, in-store Pixel repairs and help with initial setup, and the store will host workshops aimed at both prospective buyers and existing users — whether they are longtime Pixel owners or simply curious about the Pixel Watch.
A Flagship Just Steps from Apple
The setting is part of what makes the location notable. Omotesando, often called the “Champs-Élysées of Tokyo,” is a zelkova-lined avenue packed with luxury flagships, and Apple already runs one of its experiential stores toward the Omotesando Station end, a short walk from where Google’s store will stand.
For years Google sold its hardware in Japan mainly through carriers and online channels, whereas Apple has long used physical retail as a brand showcase. Whether or not Apple’s presence factored into the site choice, the new flagship marks a shift toward that kind of in-person experience and service, and a high-visibility spot to reach shoppers who may have only met Google’s hardware online.
Google says the latest details will be shared through its Japan store site.
