The Debut of a New Quintet
Blue Note Tokyo will present a special residency showcasing the latest project by Avishai Cohen, one of the most influential artists in contemporary jazz. A leading bassist, singer and composer with a career spanning more than 25 years, Cohen has continuously created and performed original music while also dedicating himself to nurturing the next generation of musicians.
Cohen will appear with a newly formed quintet, which was first unveiled at Jazz in Marciac 2024. Joining Cohen are Itay Simhovitch on piano, Eviatar Slivnik on drums, Yuval Drabkin on saxophone and Yonatan Voltzok on trombone. Drabkin and Voltzok both appear on the album Brightlight. With this carefully selected lineup, the quintet will perform a wide-ranging repertoire that includes Cohen’s well-known compositions as well as new material.
On February 8, the first performance will open at 15:30 and start at 16:30. The second performance will open at 18:30 and start at 19:30. On February 9 and February 10, the first performance will open at 17:00 and start at 18:00. The second performance will open at 19:45 and start at 20:30.
As part of Cohen’s residency, trio performances will also take place on February 6 and February 7.
