Experience Musical Magic with Mother and Son

Blue Note Tokyo welcomes back Jahari Stampley, a rising-star pianist and Yamaha official artist based in Chicago. Stampley previously performed at Blue Note Tokyo accompanying Makaya McCraven, and will now be performing music from his second album, What A Time. Stampley will be debuting his new single “To Be Alive” along with unreleased songs.

In a special two-night performance, Stampley will be accompanied by his mother, bassist and saxophonist D’Erania Stampley (also known as D-Erania). The 59th Grammy Awards Committee recognized D-Erania’s Language of the Heart album for seven ballot categories.

Additional band members include Xu Zhitong on drums.

Stampley began playing piano at 14 years old, and within two years won various competitions such as the National YoungArts Competition. By 18 years old, Stampley had already build a following and caught the attention of several world-renowned musicians including Yebba Smith, Jill Scott, Stanley Clarke and Derrick Hodge among others. His debut album Still Listening debuted at #1 on the iTunes chart. In 2023, he won first place at one of the biggest jazz awards, the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz International Competition.

“It’s just overwhelming and also just amazing…these are all people I’ve always looked up to and loved when I was growing up,” he told NPR

Stampley has performed in esteemed venues including Radio City Music Hall in New York City, The Met Philadelphia opera house, Carnegie Hall and now Blue Note Tokyo.

Reservations for the performance can be made online.
