Sanja Matsuri
Centered around Sensoji Temple and Asakusa Shrine, Sanja Matsuri is held over three days, with the main festivities taking place over the weekend and including dances by the shrine maidens, taiko drumming, traditional festival stalls and more. This legendary matsuri is considered one of the three Great Festivals of Edo
International Roses & Gardening Show
This spectacular floral expo celebrates its 20th anniversary with over one million flowers waiting to welcome visitors. It’s a globally recognized event to promote gardening culture and encourage a harmonious lifestyle with nature. Oedo Beer Festival
One of the biggest craft beer events in Japan sets up for five days of delicious drinking fun in Shinjuku Cinecity Square. Oedo Beer Festival is returning to the same venue as last year, adjacent to the Toho “Godzilla” cinema in the heart of Kabukicho. Food sellers and breweries from all over the country, as well as further afield, will be serving up their diverse flavors.
Hi Beer Garden
Japan’s largest beer garden returns to the heart of Tokyo, taking over Hibiya Park for just over a week of fine beer drinking. There will be around 80 kinds of beer and more than a dozen breweries taking part. If beer isn’t your thing, you can still indulge in the many types of food on offer, or head to the martini lounge to sip in style.
The Cribs
The trio of brothers from the UK returns to Japan to promote last year’s acclaimed new release. Last summer, in a return to their noisier roots, the Jarman brothers released 24-7 Rockstar Shit, an album bursting with raw raucous energy. Catch them on Friday night at Daikanyama UNIT.
Live from the Kitchen Disco Volume 48
This free monthly showcase of Japan’s melting pot of homegrown and international music talent takes place in the intriguing setting of an Indian restaurant. Backing up a great lineup of music is Papera’s mouth-watering menu.
Naito Masatoshi: Another World Unveiled
Showcasing the work of Japanese photographer Naito Masatoshi whose career spans over more than half a century. Exploring different topics such as the formation of life and the universe, as well as an in-depth study of various folklore cultures in the northern Tohoku region, the maverick photographer dives into the darker underworld of Japanese culture and religion.
Tokyo Roast Battle IV: Featuring World Champion Frank Castillo
Asia’s number one Roast Battle League returns to Good Heavens in Shimokitaza for Tokyo Roast Battle IV: Rise of Champions featuring Frank Castillo. Castillo is the reigning champion of Comedy Central’s Roast Battle as well as the host of the Verbal Violence podcast.
