A Park Full of Fireflies
Hana Biyori, a flower park located inside Yomiuriland theme park, will be holding a firefly viewing event called Hotaru Biyori (“firefly days”) from May 23 to July 1.
Hana Biyori is an entertainment-style flower park packed with surprises and new sensations. It’s a park that invites customers of all generations to experience the joy and wonder of discovering unfamiliar flowers. Now for the summer season, the park will be filled with Genji fireflies flying until around mid-June. And then Heike fireflies will join in, emitting their soft light. Yomiuri Land has been raising fireflies since 2009.
The firefly viewing area will be open on weekdays from 19:40 – 20:30, and on weekends from 19:40 – 21:00. A “Firefly Viewing Time-Specific Ticket” (¥400, free for preschool children) is required to view fireflies, in addition to a Hana Biyori park admission ticket. Event tickets can be purchased through the Yomiuriland Club website. Camera flashes, light-up shoes and toys or any other light-emitting devices are prohibited at the event. The viewing area is one-way; guests will not be able to circle the area or go in the opposite direction.
During the event, Hana Biyori staff will hold daily “firefly study sessions” explaining the ecology of fireflies. Guests can also hang Tanabata wishes on strips of paper.
