This is a rare chance to step inside a real, working blacksmith’s workshop in Chiba Prefecture. Welcomed by Master Shojiro Ishizuka at Shojiro Hasami Hamono Kougei, you’ll be guided through the process of forging your own paper knife using sohizukuri — a traditional Japanese technique in which heated steel is shaped entirely by hammer.
Hand-forged Japanese blades are known for combining a razor-sharp edge with a beauty that puts them closer to art than tool, and a sturdiness that makes them last seemingly forever. In this workshop, you’ll experience that craft firsthand — pounding red-hot steel into a one-of-a-kind knife that is entirely your own.
In four hours (including travel), you’ll create something original that’s built to last for decades. Private car transfers from Narita Airport are included, and English and Chinese interpreters are available throughout.
The workshop is just 30 minutes from Narita — ideal as a day trip or a layover well spent.
