Tachikawa, Covered in Sparkling Lights

Tachikawa’s winter wonderland of illumination will light up the city with approximately 600,000 dazzling lights.

Guests can stroll down Sunsun Road along the northside exit of JR Tachikawa Station and see 48 illuminated zelkova trees with roughly 600,000 twinkling lights. A “Tachikawa Illumination” gate will also be installed at the entrance to Sunsun Road for a luminous space to take festive pictures. The surrounding area up to the Akebono entrance of Showa Memorial Park will also be decorated with illuminations.

The winter season kicks off in style on November 1, combining traditional culture with modern holiday lights. The opening ceremony will include an “Oneri” procession for the Tachikawa Tachihi Kabuki performance on Sunsun Road. Guests can enjoy food trucks and live music, counting down to the lighting ceremony.

The lighting ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with special guest speeches and a live performance by the Hello! Project idol group Rosie Chronicle.
