A Bold, Colorful World
The Tokyo National Museum’s Oriental Gallery — which exhibits Asian art, crafts and archaeological artifacts — is holding its annual autumn event.
This year’s theme is “Colorful Asia.” In addition to showcasing a variety of colorful works, the exhibit will also explore the technical challenges faced by people who tried to achieve their ideal colors, and the secrets of pigments.
Visitors can admire works from various parts of Asia, including China, the Korean Peninsula, Southeast Asia, India and Egypt, and see eye-catching works with vibrant colors and diverse decorations. Indian miniature paintings such as “King Ranjit Singh Seated on a Chair on a Terrace” will also be featured, allowing visitors to compare different expressions of color from different regions and eras. In addition, audio guides explaining the “colors” of each region will be available for people with visual impairments. Numerous exhibit-related events will be held, including performances of Indonesian gamelan music and dance.
