Tokyo Poetry Week makes its return this October, bringing brings poets, artists, writers and curious audiences together across the city for 10 days of readings, workshops, conversations, experiments and new books.

This year’s program moves between visual poetry, Japanese tanka, multilingual writing, performance, film, and collaborative practice. Events unfold at venues including The Den in Koenji, Haremame in Daikanyama and the A.I.R. building in Nihonbashi.

Among the highlights: a conversation on architecture and poetry on October 13; Visual Poetry Night on October 15, where experimental poetry meets film and games; and the October 17 launch of the latest Tokyo Poetry Journal, devoted to storytelling, legend and myth.

The week comes to a close with a poetry reading with the atmosphere of a slumber party, an appropriately playful finale to a festival built around crossing boundaries and making connections.

Some events are free, while workshops require advance registration.
