This exhibition presents around 50 Renaissance works from the Louvre Museum in Paris, including Leonardo da Vinci’s “La Belle Ferronniere” — which is making its debut appearance in Japan.
Most works date from the late 15th through the late 16th century, focusing less on the origin of the Renaissance style itself, and more on how it spread across Europe after flourishing in Italy.
Only 15 paintings are widely accepted as authentic works by Leonardo da Vinci, of which the Louvre holds five. Now, 52 years after the public display of the “Mona Lisa” in 1974, another of Leonardo’s masterpieces from the museum’s collection will be unveiled.
