A Luxurious Firefly Experience

Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo is one of the premier locations for firefly viewing in Tokyo. Guests can enjoy beautiful fireflies and illuminations in a peaceful garden and celebrate the season with the hotel’s festival buffet and other exclusive offerings.

Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo’s firefly event started in 1954, when Eiichi Ogawa, founder of the hospitality group Fujita Kanko, expressed his desire to “show fireflies to the children of Tokyo.” Now the annual festival has become one of the most beloved seasonal attractions in the city, with around 10,000 fireflies visible during peak firefly season.

The hotel recommends looking for fireflies in the area around the Benkei Bridge in Chinzanso Garden. They can be spotted along the river between the bridge and the old watermill located downstream. On rainy days, the fireflies can be seen from the corridor behind the Gojo Waterfall at Yusuichi Pond. They fly into a cave biotope that recreates their natural habitat.

The best time to see them is between 19:30 and 21:00 after dining at one of the many hotel restaurants. The twinkling lights add a natural breathtaking experience.

The area is open to all hotel guests and restaurant patrons. To avoid congestion, garden entry tickets (¥2000) will be required on select days from May 16- June 12 for non-hotel guests.

During firefly season, the hotel hosts a festive dinner prepared by the hotel chefs. This year’s Firefly Evenings Dinner Buffet will run from May 17 to June 30. Guests can enjoy a variety of luxurious delicacies, including nigiri sushi, sirloin roast beef and chestnut Mont Blanc. To make a reservation, please visit the hotel website.
