A Glimpse Into Edo and Meiji Childhood

The Minato City Local History Museum will host a special exhibition, “Toy Pictures from the Museum Collection” from April 25 to June 28.

Omocha-eor toy pictures, are a type of ukiyo-e print art that was primarily made for children during the Edo and Meiji eras. These artworks included illustrated picture sets, paper crafts and board games. These toy pictures serve as artifacts displaying childhood culture, education and everyday life in historical Japan.

The gallery will be on display at the Minato City Local History Museum’s Special Exhibition room. General entrance tickets are ¥200, and ¥100 for high school students and under. Combination tickets that also include entry into the museum’s permanent exhibition are available for ¥400
