Pretty in Pink: Tokyo’s Hello Kitty Train Pulls in the Station

Sanrio Puroland, better known as Hello Kitty Land Tokyo, and Japanese railway operator Keio Corporation bring kawaii to the train tracks as they teamed up to launch the first train wrapped entirely in Hello Kitty designs.

The November 1 launch date honors both Hello Kitty’s birthday and the anniversary of the municipal organization of Tama City, home to Hello Kitty Land Tokyo. Coated in baby pink and adorned with Hello Kitty images, rainbows, flowers and popular Puroland characters, one out of 10 trains on the Keio Line between Shinjuku Station and Keio-Tama-Center Station will roll out in full kawaii fashion. Sticker signs warning passengers not to get caught by the closing doors will also be decked out in Hello Kitty and Puroland characters.

Last Stop: Tokyo’s Hello Kitty Funland

Tokyo fans can enjoy their own Hello Kitty-themed ride following the launch of the Hello Kitty Shinkansen bullet train in Fukuoka in June and the Hello Kitty Shinkansen-themed café that opened in July. Travelers will be able to hop onto the pink, 10-carriage trains on Toei Shinjuku Line as well as the Keio Line, which will then take passengers all the way to Hello Kitty Land at Tama Center Station.

When visitors arrive at Tama Center Station, they will be greeted with Hello Kitty and Puroland themed everything, including a huge ceiling structure with Hello Kitty and Puroland artwork, a waiting area full of Hello Kitty bows, a cute clock decorated with Hello Kitty in a station master’s uniform, and much more. If you’re planning on making the trip to Hello Kitty Land Tokyo on the adorable trains, you can buy special tickets, titled “Amusement Passport,” which combine the entrance ticket for the theme park and a day pass for the Keio and Inokashira lines at a discounted price.

Additionally, these Hello Kitty trains launch right in time for the Puro Christmas and Magical Snow events running from November 9–25, which will feature magical snow-like illuminations created by NAKED Inc, a company known for it Flowers by Naked project, as well as a Christmas musical show and other seasonal attractions.
