Agenda Events - November 8th, 2011

There is a festival for almost every day in Japan which is one of the reasons we love living here.

One of the most visually striking events is the annual shichi-go-san festival, which celebrates good health for children aged seven-five and three. Odd numbers mean good luck in Japanese numerology and these ages mark important milestones in life.

The ritual was adopted in the Heian period of 794 – 1185 and spread through all classes of Japanese society from the Edo period.

On this day, shrines across the country offer a glimpse of Japan from long ago and a great photo opportunity for culture seeking tourists.
