Once called Silicon Valley’s “number one restaurant,” the popular US steakhouse opened its first Japan branch on November 10 on the 42nd floor of Shiodome City Center.

Known for putting a fine dining spin on the traditional steak eatery, this “swank steakhouse” (as the Michelin guide describes it) has always incorporated Asian influences into its menu. All branches – in California, San Francisco, and Taiwan – feature 28-day dry-aged certified Angus beef from the mid-west United States as well as a selection of imported Wagyu beef. And executive chef James Brownsmith pays particular attention to combining the “pure flavors of Japanese cuisine” with the techniques of the classic American steakhouse. So it makes perfect sense for the group to open a branch in Japan.

Guests at the Tokyo restaurant can look forward to all the beefy goodness as well as seafood and vegetarian dishes that Alexander’s is famed for. To experience a unique beef course menu, opt for the “study of beef” (¥14,000), which features six dishes from appetizer to dessert, all of which include different beef cuts (dessert is “Tallow Doughnuts,” in case you’re wondering). As for the bar, it’s stocked with premium spirits and specialty cocktails, as well as a wine list created by the restaurant’s in-house wine directors.

To top it all off? You get beautiful views of Tokyo from the 42nd floor.
