Cinema Engineering: The Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2026

The Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2026 returns this spring, bringing one of Asia’s largest Academy Award-accredited short film festivals to venues across Tokyo.

Taking place from May 25 to June 10, 2026 (with online screenings through June 30), this year’s festival is themed “Cinema Engineering,” exploring how film is shaped through technology, sensory design and new storytelling formats such as AI and vertical video.

The program will feature approximately 250 short films selected from over 5,000 submissions, alongside special screenings — including AI-generated works and immersive “Food” and “Art” programs designed to engage all five senses.
