Break dancers have been dancing to an unusual, classical ‘new’ beat for a couple of years now, with sold out shows taking Europe “by storm” since 2010. It must be all those energy drinks.

Red Bull Flying Bach is now on a major world tour which as well as taking in Tokyo has been to such countries as Lebanon, Quatar and the U.A.E. and will also head to Osaka this month. Bringing its street dance styles to the theatre with accompanying classical music might sound strange but, according to some reviews, is actually going down quite well.

The aim of the project is, says the promotional material, to “visualize and revive Johann Sebastian Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, crossing the borders of serious music and youth culture.”

Have a look at the video from a recent stop over in Dubai and see whether you think they have achieved that – after watching some clips, we reckon the idea might not be so bad after all. Whether of not you feel they have pulled it off, we certainly reckon it’s worth a look in real life.

Red Bull Flying Bach hits the Orchard Hall, part of Bunkamura in Shibuya, on November 8 and 9. If ever there was an excuse (as if you need one) to head to the venue for the first time, this might just be it.
