20 Years of Chiba-Kun
In celebration of Chiba-kun’s 20th anniversary, the Chiba Prefectural Museum of Art will host a special exhibition about the local mascot and the artist Chiharu Sakazaki.
The mascot Chiba-kun was created in 2007 as the mascot for the “Yume Hanto Chiba National Sports Festival and Yume Hanto Chiba Games.” The character became so popular with local residents and visitors alike, that Chiba-kun became the official mascot of Chiba Prefecture.
January 11 , 2027 will mark Chiba-kun’s 20th anniversary. The exhibition will showcase the record of Chiba-kun’s activities throughout his mascot career, looking into the activities, neighborhoods, and people that have worked together with the character to promote the prefecture. The gallery will also include new artwork by Chiba-kun’s creator, Chiharu Sakazaki, who is also the artist behind many other beloved characters like the Suica Penguin and Chibi Godzilla.
