A 17-year old boy in Hokkaido has been arrested for stealing explosive materials from the school chemistry lab. The boy broke into his school’s chemistry storage room and has been regularly stealing flammable material between February and April. The boy picked locks on doors and storage shelves. Among the materials he stole is potassium nitrate. The headmaster of the school regretted the incident stating that “It is quite a shame”. During police investigation, the boy confessed that he used the stolen chemicals to make an explosive and took them to the mountain woods where he blew them up. The police are continuing to investigate and suspected that the boy was aided by four other male students from the same school.
