An 81-year old man was sentenced two and a half years in prison after mailing bullets and detonators to political leaders, AFP reports.
John Gordon pleaded guilty to 12 charges over the explosive packages addressed to Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Kevin Rudd and opposition leader Tony Abbott. The packages contained bullets, detonators, offensive letters and death threats. Gordon also sent a bomb hoax to central and commercial bank chiefs. Another letter from Gordon claimed that he poisoned the water supply at refugee housing, saying: “We will wipe all foreigners off Australia soil real soon. Curse them all with an agonizing death”.
Gordon was reportedly angered by government policies on immigration and education. Defense lawyer Bruce Mumford told the Brisbane District Court that Gordon was in a “cranky mood” went he sent the letters and regretted his actions between 2007 and 2010. Judge Brian Deveraux sentenced him for two years and a half. He must also serve eight months before being released for good behavior.
