You certainly can’t set your watch by most Japanese ‘Oktoberfests’ – the word seems to be the de rigueur descriptor for any drink-heavy get-together…
This time, though, in Odaiba, the organisers have chosen – behold! – to hold their Oktoberfest in, well, October. We’ll forgive them their April/May precursor and just call it a warm up, but the (impressive as ever) line-up of ales might just taste slightly sweeter in the month they are made for.
You might want to leave thrift behind as you cross Rainbow Bridge to Odaiba – beers can get pretty pricey, at around 1,000 yen upwards for half a litre and double that, not including the deposit you’ll pay for the glass, for the full Bavarian bicep-stretching experience.
The traditional glass is all part of the fun, though, as is the music – this time from Oktoberfest Band, Almpower (and don’t forget about the sausages…)
As its all held under the watchful eyes of Gundam, we can’t think of a better way to while away an afternoon.
