For a day out — or even longer — to explore the rugged Japanese countryside and culture, head to Hiraodai Countryside Park. You’ll find expansive grassy plains and tour the rare geographic oddity called the karst plateau. Go paragliding or explore one of the three limestone caves open to the public, where ancient fossils have been found. Also enjoy a host of fun cultural workshops including cooking soba noodles and making traditional crafts. There are also top-notch camping facilities available if you want to stay overnight. Be sure to check the park website before your trip as the park is closed on some weekdays. How Much: Free entry | Prices for park activities vary
