We are pleased to be able to announce a special Tokyo International Film Festival ticket giveaway, with two pairs of screening passes for two different films up for grabs.
The 27th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) takes place from October 23–31, but we have tickets for a special pre-festival screening event at Akasaka Civic Hall on September 27 and 28.
First up is Bending the Rules. Brought to you by a member of the Iranian cinema’s new generation, the film tells a story of a theatre troupe unable to leave the country without parental permission. It portrays the realistic struggles of young people in modern Iran, dealing with old values and their elders.
Our second give-away is for A Most Wanted Man, a espionage-thriller film about a half-Chechen, half-Russian immigrant who turns up in Hamburg’s Islamic community, laying claim to his father’s ill-gotten fortune. Both German and US security agencies take interest as the race is on to establish the most wanted man’s true identity. The film features Philip Seymour Hoffman in one of his final roles.
TIFF is a chance to see releases from around the world in English in a central Tokyo location, before many of them are on general release, and over the years stars from around the world have come to Tokyo for audiences with local media and fans. This year, look out for Disney’s latest animated film Big Hero 6 as the opener of the festival, and the live-action film PARASYTE, which was adapted from the world-acclaimed Japanese comic, selected as the official closing film.
It’s a special year for TIFF for two reasons. Firstly, they are showing films at two additional venues—Nihonbashi and the Kabukiza theatre in Ginza. In addition, they are embracing Japan’s most popular content—animation—with a special focus on the work of well-known filmmaker Hideaki Anno.
