At the turn of the 20th century there appeared in Belgium a number of superbly gifted painters – symbolists who were able to express the deepest corners of the human heart, and surrealists who managed to paint the world of dreams and the unconscious. Together, they produced what can only be called the Genealogy of Visionary Art.

Himeji City Museum of Art owns one of the largest and richest collections of Belgian art in Japan.
