Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. has developed a natural gas fueled electric power station designed for times of disaster and the blackouts which often follow, the Asahi Shimbun reports.
The power generation facility, named “Meganinja” for its “quickness”, is a mobile station housed in a 12-meter long freight container, transported by a semi-trailer truck. It can generate up to 1,500 kilowatts within 24 hours of its installation in an area.
MHI plans to introduce the product, in both Japan and abroad. The mobile station consists of a natural gas compressor, a gas engine and an electricity power station, MHI told Asahi Shimbun.
The Japanese company is expecting a stable demand for the transportable power station, particularly from China, which has previously announced that it would spread distributed electric sources, and emerging economies which have poor transmission networks.
