Architecture That Weaves People and Nature Together

From July 2 to November 9, the Mori Art Museum will be exhibiting “The Architecture of Sou Fujimoto: Primordial Future Forest.” The exhibit is a comprehensive overview of various projects from celebrated architect Sou Fujimoto’s design journey through plans, installations, large-scale models, photographs and prototypes.

From universities and hotels, to homes and multi-purpose complexes, Fujimoto is one of Japan’s leading architects and has been involved in projects all over the world. He is also currently serving as the design producer for the Expo 2025 world fair in Osaka. This exhibition is the first major survey of Fujimoto’s work. It provides a comprehensive overview from his early work to projects currently underway and Fujimoto’s vision of a futuristic city.

Through the perspective of an art gallery, the exhibit also explores how architecture and urban design affect ecology, human relationships, the union or division of communities and technological developments.

The exhibit’s “Forest of Models” installation area presents all of Fujimoto’s projects. With over 300 square meters, models, materials and ideas are presented chronologically across Fujimoto’s career timeline.

The Expo 2025 area features a 1:5 model of a section of “the Grand Ring” world expo venue in Osaka. The ring was designed with the concept of world unity amidst diversity.
