Takanawa Light Journey Illuminates Tokyo’s Newest Urban Hub

Takanawa Light Journey is a limited-time projection mapping event that combines light, sound, water and cutting-edge technology into an immersive experience. The event will be held in Takanawa Gateway City (stylized as TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY), a new district defined by its forward-thinking urban design. Running from Thursday, February 5 to Wednesday, February 11 (which is a national holiday), the event will transform Gateway Park into a futuristic stage after dark.

The program features two main works. “Time Voyage – A Light Path of Memories” traces the neighborhood’s story using large-scale projection mapping synchronized with fountains and lighting — a journey that will take spectators from its history as the site of Japan’s first over-the-sea railway, all the way to its future, showing a vision of the city 100 years from now. Meanwhile, “The Takanawa” offers a more atmospheric experience, pairing visuals of the area with original music created from local ambient sounds such as station chimes and crowd noise.
